Vanuatu - Day 1.
Cloudy. Excuse me weather man, I ordered sun for my holiday!
I almost missed my plane! AGAIN! First I went to the international terminal, but I forgot that I’m flying via Brisbane. So they told me to go to the domestic terminal. Then I queued for half an hour just to find out that it was the wrong line. I finally checked in 15 minutes before the departure time! I almost panicked and I was sure they wouldn’t let me get into the plane… But here we are! You know me, travelling without a bit of drama would be boring, whether it’s a lost jacket or a credit card or whatever!
My hotel room is shocking. I just asked the lady at the airport information desk to organize me the cheapest accommodation possible. And this is hideous… I think the native people of Vanuatu live in better huts. The toilet reminds me of Trainspotting. Anyway, I only booked it for a couple of nights.
Once I got here, I went to look at the town of Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu. And it’s small. And poor and undeveloped. I mean, they don't even have McDonald's.The good thing is, nobody is trying to get me to buy anything. Unless they see it in my face that I have no money. I have to say that I’m a bit worried travelling here by myself. When I’m walking around the town I felt like they’ve never seen a white girl before. And where are all the happy people I read about! Some are, but I feel like the majority is not very welcoming, sometimes even ignoring me at shops. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a female travelling alone or if they are like that towards all tourists. There aren’t a lot of tourists, just a few from Australia.
I had a huge headache so I had to head back to the motel to take a pill and a little nap. I woke around 9 pm, forced myself to get up and walked to the town. It’s a bit of a walk from my motel to the town and it was dark and I was afraid of every person that I came across... This is definitely not a good place for a female to travel by oneself!!! Everything was closed. So I went to this nice bar by the beach and had one beer and went back to sleep.
